Skilling for Empowerment

Uganda has continued to grapple with the challenge of unemployment as majority of the youth can’t access jobs. However, for one to compete in the jo market, he must be having the power and competence to do the job. In Uganda there is a challenge of many of the youths lacking skills to make them compete in the job market.

This is attributed to the alarming school dropout rates that stand at over 68 percent at primary school level. This means these youths cannot compete for the few available job opportunities.
It is however worthy to note that Albertine region has had an opportunity of oil and gas activities which require often skilled labor in vocational fields. This means that young people should be equipped with skills so that they can be able to compete whenever an opportunity shows up.
Working with KCB Bank – Hoima Branch and GIZ (German Corporation for International Cooperation) We identified 100 youths and women underwent a six months training and skilling program at that ended in June 2023. The beneficiaries were given skills in welding & metal fabrication, fashion & design, carpentry & joinery, plumbing, building & construction and electrical installation.
The trainees will also be able to create their own jobs since they have the necessary skills. We continue to appeal to the well-wishers who would wish to provide support in form of welding machines, sowing machines and other equipment’s to support some of the trainees who are unable to get capital.
